My Vintage Farmhouse With Animals

Categories Pets

I grew up in New York with my grandparents. My parents had separated soon after I was born and no one wanted to take my responsibility! Sad right? But my granny insisted to take care of me, which was really sweet of her. They had a gorgeous humongous farmhouse, and I enjoyed staying there a lot. I have grown up around lots of cats, dogs, and ducks as my grandfather was very fond of animals. There were seven dogs, five cats, and eight ducks.

A life around animals and living vintage style really taught me so many things. I am sure if I would have lived with my parents, I would have been a totally different person. Anyway, I am glad my granny and grandpa chose to raise me. It was my 21st birthday and my grandparents made an announcement in front of their dear and near ones that they are gifting me their farmhouse. They were growing very old and they had full faith that after they wouldn’t be here, they could trust me with their farm and animals. I was so happy! This definitely was the best gift.

I was 25 today, living in this farmhouse all alone. After my grandparent’s death, I never felt lonely because I had these adorable animals around me all the time. I started keeping myself busy by making homemade pickles and selling them, started a pet care service where anyone could leave their pet in our farmhouse at a certain cost and my helpers would feed them, walk them and our farmhouse was obviously a shelter for them. Both the businesses were doing really well. Once a man came in with 5 Westchester puppies and kittens, left them at our farmhouse and never showed up. It had been 5 weeks; he would never answer our calls. My heart felt a pinch every time I heard them cry. My helpers suggested that I shouldn’t worry as we could all keep them as our pets and take care of them.  I thought that was the best idea. My place had more animals than human. I have been so grateful for my grandparents who adopted me and took care of me and got me into this life filled with an old-school lifestyle and cute little animals. Not even a day goes by that I don’t miss them.
